WORKSHOP FOLLOWING JACQUES LECOQ PEDAGOGY

PROGRAM
This is a flexible workshop. Depending from the number of
participants and hours, it can go from an introductory to an intensive
program.
INTRODUCTORY: 15 hours
INTENSIVE: 30 hours
The 20 Movements were devised by J. Lecoq, one of the greatest minds in
Contemporary Theatre, and were taught by him at the École Internationale
de Théatre J. Lecoq in Paris.
Each of them is a referential movement that allows the actor to understand the many expressive variations of that movement.
They are practiced in a state of neutrality. The body is constantly reminded to stay in a pre-character state. The actor’s persona disappears and The movement appears. For this reason they are an excellent training of the neutral state.
They are useful as physical training for actors, dancers, or anyone who
wants to explore the fundamental principles of movement and improve the
quality of their movement.
Practising the Twenty Movements involves working on: economy of
movement, lines of force, pushing and pulling, articulating and breaking
down an action, the relationship with space, rhythm, equilibrium and
disequilibrium, the fixed point, rigour, persistence, the necessity of
rehearsing, discipline, facing one’s own limits and physical habits, quest
for neutrality, commitment to silence, seeing the difference between
everyday movements and transposed Movement, integrating feedback,
showing the relationship between neutrality and character and between
neutral movement and expressive treatment…
Like scales for a musician, each movement is a form of learning,
practising, and with time, fine-tuning.
Twenty Movements Exam: an individual presentation of the Twenty
Movements. Each student will choose how to connect each movement one
to another following their dynamics and their placement in space in a sort
of personal creative choreography that reveals their own personality.
